Travelling by train

I love trains! Travelling by train is absolutely fascinating and the railway network is ever so encompassing in Britain. If you plan to take a tour around England a car is not necessarily needed unlike in most countries. You can travel by train just like the Right Honorable Michael Portillo did in his tv-series Great British Railway Journeys. As he shows, it is amazing, that the railways in Britain were built already in the Victorian times and the very same railway lines are still serving millions and millions passengers every day. There are around 24 000 trains operating per weekday 21 000 operate on Saturdays and 13 000 on Sundays. Commuting by train is far more common in England than anywhere I know.

There has been a couple of times though, when it has not been possible to use public transport in order to get to the desired destination. I recall, that Leeds Castle, which by the way is not in Leeds, has been one of them and car rental came into question. I like to drive in England as a matter of fact. It feels more natural to drive on left side and the numerous roundabouts make traffic much more flexible than in Europe. It is amazing how our brains get used to new ways of doing things, so when leaving from the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport on the trip back home by car one just will have bear in mind to drive on the right.

I am convinced, that it will be possible to travel in Britain as a tourist again in the near future. In this purpose keep an eye on my blog: https://jrtouristguideservices.wordpress.com/ and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JRmatkanjohtajapalvelut.
